We were just talking about this at the panel on Social Media - we all agreed. Turn off geotagging unless you're using it for something useful.
I even have it turned off on my iPhone.
I agree at this point - even as I teach and work with GIS - there are great way i could see it used, depending on the level of accuracy - I am doing a ecologic study and so not have a lot of funding (ahhh grad school days) - I send a tweet at every location - the geolocation info on and then i can pull it into google maps through a nifty app and make a very awesome map - with out spending tons of money on high end GIS/mapping - but providing info free to stalkers - not so keen on that
